An attempt was made here today to coordinate British and United States policy affecting the report of the late Count Folke Bernadotte for the first time since President Truman’s stand on election eve. An American draft resolution was discussed privately during a session of the General Assembly’s Political Committee by Britain’s Minister of State Hector McNeil and Harold Beeley of the Foreign Office and Dean Rusk of the U.S.
The United States draft, it is understood, concentrates on a Palestine conciliation committee and leaves the Israeli frontiers unsettled. Britain is unwilling to accept this and proposes to proceed independently with full support for the whole Bernadotte plan.
