An Australian woman filed the first civil lawsuit against organizers of the 1997 Maccabiah Games in Israel for injuries she suffered when a bridge collapsed at the games’ opening. Sasha Elterman has had close to 30 operations and spent much of her life in the hospital since the collapse. A criminal trial and Israeli parliamentary inquiry are also proceeding.
