An editorial in a South African newspaper blasted Israel’s assassination of Sheik Ahmed Yassin. The article in the national Sunday Times criticized what it called Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s “gloating” announcement of the Hamas founder’s death and “chilling” responses of support by Israeli Cabinet members. The paper said it is “unprecedented for a legitimate government which subscribes to protocols of the civilized world, to openly authorize assassinations.”
