An envoy of Syrian President Hafez Assad asked Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretien this week to consider sending additional peacekeeping troops to the Golan Heights should Israel and Syria reach an agreement about the disputed territory. Chretien indicated that he would not contemplate sending in more troops at least until Israel and Syria resume peace talks.
