An estimated 4,000 Jewish federation lay leaders and professionals gathered Sunday in Los Angeles for the United Jewish Communities’ annual General Assembly. This year’s meeting of the North American federation system, which will run through Wednesday, is focused on Israel under the theme “Together on the Frontline, One People, One Destiny.”
Hillel: The Foundation for Jewish Campus Life drew some 1,000 college students to Los Angeles for a social service program. The “Just for a Day” event, timed to coincide with the United Jewish Communities’ General Assembly, which began Sunday, sent student volunteers to help at social service venues such as Heal the Bay, The Los Angeles Regional Food Bank and Midnight Mission, where they were scheduled to help serve and cook food for the needy.
