An institute of southern Jewry was officially unveiled in New Orleans. The Goldring Woldenberg Institute of Southern Jewish Life will work in a 12-state region from Virginia to Texas, providing rabbinic and educational support to isolated rural Jewish communities, preserving neglected and abandoned Jewish cemeteries and synagogues, and coordinating educational and cultural events on a regional basis.
