An international forum for lawmakers condemned anti-Semitism. The International Conference on Human Rights and Religious Freedom, which brings together lawmakers from 40 nations, held its third annual meeting in Washington last week. Its concluding document declared: “Anti-Semitism is a global concern and never a function of Jewish conduct. Reducing the magnitude of Jewish suffering throughout history to politics alienates and distorts our own humanity. The alarming signs of recurrence of anti-Semitism, especially in some advanced societies of Western Europe, indicate a deep-rooted prejudice.” It also recognized Islamophobia as a threat. “At a time when some governments are seeking to downplay the importance of fighting anti-Semitism, this is a significant statement by parliamentarians from 40 nations,” said Shai Franklin, director of international organizations for the World Jewish Congress.
