An Israeli army officer involved in the shooting of a Palestinian civilian in the West Bank was indicted. The army confirmed Thursday that the Israel Defense Force’s military prosecutor indicted a lieutenant and five of his men, Ha’aretz reported. They commandeered a taxi, drove through the town of Dahariya and shot an unarmed Palestinian who aroused their suspicions, according to an army investigation. The officer acted on his own initiative and violated military orders. The wounded man was left on the ground without being treated, the investigation found. He was treated at a local clinic and transferred to an Israeli hospital. Among six serious charges facing the officer are aggravated assault, wrongful imprisonment and overstepping authority in a manner that endangered lives.
