An Israeli army psychiatrist was convicted of trying to spy for Iran and Hamas.
The Tel Aviv District Court on Wednesday found David Shamir guilty of “illicit contacts with enemy entities” as part of a plea bargain.
Shamir, 45, and a reserve major in the military’s mental health division, admitted contacting Hamas, Iran and Russia with offers to provide state secrets. There was no response to his overtures.
Shamir’s sentencing was set for Jan. 17. He faces a maximum term of 25 years, though a shorter sentence is expected in light of the plea bargain.
