An Israeli convicted in the United States of major drug offenses was repatriated. Zev Rosenstein was flown to Tel Aviv under guard Wednesday after U.S. prosecutors allowed him to serve out the rest of a 12-year prison sentence, handed down for international trafficking in Ecstasy, in Israel.

Rosenstein was arrested in 2004 and extradited two years later to Miami, where he entered a plea bargain.

Though he will spend Passover alone in his new cell in Israel’s Ayalon Prison, Rosenstein told Yediot Achronot, “It’s really symbolic that I’m going back home ahead of the festival of liberty.”
