An Israeli court overturned on Monday a lower court’s decision ordering a man who kidnapped his son to return him to the boy’s mother in the United States. The court based its ruling on a declaration by the 13-year-old boy that he wished to remain in Israel with his father, who is in the middle of divorce proceedings with his wife. The judge stressed in his ruling that he did not want to condone the violation of international conventions regarding the unlawful abduction of children across international borders. But he said the youth was old enough that his desire had to be taken into account.
