An Israeli fund for Holocaust survivors announced it lacked funds to continue assisting some of the neediest survivors. Officials with the Foundation for the Benefit of Holocaust Victims blamed the Claims Conference on Monday for not providing additional funding to cover the increasing medical needs of aging survivors. The Claims Conference funds the majority of the needs, but has not answered its request for an additional $10 million that would cover the two programs in question, the foundation said. The Claims Conference said it has increased its funding to the foundation every year since it was founded and expects to give it $40 million in 2006.
