An Israeli minister maintains that U.S. and Israeli officials have a tape of a telephone conversation in which Syrian President Bashar Assad congratulated Hezbollah for abducting three Israeli soldiers last October, according to the Israeli daily Ha’aretz. Israeli security officials were incensed after Saleh Tarif, the first Arab minister in Israel’s history, made the disclosure.
