Gunmen from Islamic Jihad and Fatah opened fire on Israeli troops and contractors as they worked on the security barrier along Gaza’s border with Egypt on Sunday, killing a soldier and wounding two others. Troops returned fire, killing one man. In the West Bank, troops arrested a Palestinian youth who tried to smuggle four pipe bombs through a military checkpoint.
