An observant Jewish high school basketball star recently discussed the possibility of playing for Israel’s top team. But Maccabi Tel Aviv did not offer a contract to 17-year-old Tamir Goodman, and the discussions broke off. Goodman recently told the University of Maryland that he would not accept a scholarship to play there next fall after coaches at the school criticized his refusal to play on the Sabbath and were unimpressed by his recent play.
