Hungarian archeologists have uncovered the remains of a 14th century synagogue on the site of the ancient town of Budetar, now part of Budapest, it was reported here today from that city.
Dr. Alexander Schreiber, director of the Jewish Theological Seminary in Budapest, was called in to decipher the Hebrew inscriptions on the walls. These indicated that there was a Jewish community in Budetar in the early Middle Ages which built the synagogue. The discovery was described as an unexpected one.
