Andre Joseph Narboni, head of the Sephardi and Oriental Diaspora Department of the Jewish Agency and a member of the World Zionist Organization Executive, died last Friday at the age of 62. Funeral services will be held tomorrow in Tel Aviv where he had resided. Narboni immigrated to Israel from Algeria in 1962, after playing a leading role in Algerian and North African Jewish affairs. He was one of the founders of the Zionist youth movement in Algeria and represented Algerian Jewry at several Zionist congresses.
In 1965, Narboni became a full member of the Jewish Agency Executive, in which capacity he took interest in the Oriental Jewish communities both in Israel and in the diaspora. He became head of the Sephardi and Oriental Diaspora Department when it was founded in 1972.
