Andre Maurois, well known French writer and author of the new biography of Disraeli, is of Jewish origin, according to a statement he made in response to a question of the “London Jewish Chronicle.”
“My grandfather was a Jew, my grandmother a Protestant,” M. Maurois stated. “I was brought up in no religion whatever and married a Roman Catholic. My children are Roman Catholics. Personally I have no religion, but live more as a Christian than a Jew. My family has been French for a large number of generations.”
