The fourth anniversary of the death of Matyas Stoliar, founder and publisher of the Di Yiddish Zeitung, largest Jewish daily newspaper in Latin America, was observed here today at a ceremony during which his widow, Mrs. Gitel Stoliar, presented two awards of 5,000 pesos each for the best literary work written in Yiddish during the last year. The winners of the awards are Abraham Zack and I. Hirshoit.
Representatives of all major Jewish organizations and institutions attended the ceremony, which was preceded by a visit to the grave of the late publisher. Thanking those who were present, Mrs. Stoliar said that the life-long work of her husband in promoting Jewish cultural work is being continued in a way he would have approved. Other speakers included Mark Turkow, representative of the World Jewish Congress and leading members of the editorial staff of the Yiddish Zeitung.
