An unprecedented solemn ceremony was held here today commemorating the 25th anniversary of the first deportations of Dutch Jews by the Nazis.
All Jewish youth organizations were given special permission by Amsterdam Burgomeister Gysbert Van Hall to hold the memorial rites at the ruins of the Schouwburg Municipal Theater which served as a concentration center for nearly 100,000 Jews who were sent from there directly to the Nazi concentration camps. Six candles were lit for the 6,000,000 Jews who perished in the Nazi holocaust and wreaths were laid at the Eternal Flame that is at the site.
