The Israeli Chief Rabbinate today ordered that the anniversary of the proclamation of Israeli statehood–which falls on the fifth day of Iyar–be considered henceforth comparable to the festival of L’ag B’omer. Wedding ceremonies, which ore not permissible during the seven-week period between Passover and Shavuoth except on L’ag B’omer, may now be performed on the anniversary of Israel’s proclamation of statehood, the rabbinate’s order said.
