A subscription of $25,000 by Ben Selling, of Portland, Oregon, to the $10,000,000 being raised for Jewish farm settlement work in Russia, was announced last night by James N. Rosenberg, chairman of the American Jewish Joint Agricultural Corporation.
“The growing response throughout the country to Julius Rosenwald’s challenging subscription of $5,000,000 is evidenced by voluntary subscriptions coming in from various states,” said Mr. Rosenberg. Max Senior of Cincinnati base sent in a subscription for $10,000; Messrs. Meir and Frank of Portland, Oregon, have subscribed $5,000; and A. S. Lavenson of Oakland, California, telegraphed an outright contribution of $5,000 toward a Julius Rosenwald Honor Fund for the promotion of Jewish agriculture in Russia.
“We are not conducting a campaign,” concluded Mr. Rosenberg. “We are confident that the American Jews, inspired by Mr. Rosenwald’s great act, will follow his leadership and complete the fund in the near future.”
Jewish Consumptive Relief Association of California celebrated its fifteenth anniversary at a reception Sunday night. The annual convention of the Sanatorium, will open in Los Angeles today.
The convention will discuss problems of maintenance and of possible extension of facilities.
