Announcement has been made by the National Committee on Religious Schools of the National Federation of Temple Sisterhoods, of the annual award of prizes to contributors to “Young Israel.” The contest for 1926-27 which has just ended has resulted in the following awards: For the best short story to Joseph Gner of New York City, for his story “The Uncles from Far Away.” For the best poem, to Mrs. Edith Mirick of Washington, D. C., entitled “Spring Chorus;” for the best article, to Max Robin of New York City for his “Grandfather’s Tale,” and for the best illustrations, to Mrs. Harry Sternberg of New York City.
The Judges were Burton Rascoe, Babette Deutsch, and Samuel Ornitz, “Young Israel” is a magazine published for Jewish children and sponsored by the Union of American Hebrew Congregations.
