National leaders, representing six national Jewish organizations, will participate in a symposium on the problem of the American Jewish youth, which will be the feature of the Annual Meeting of the National Council of the Jewish Welfare Board, to be held today, at the Y.M.H.A., Lexington Ave. and 92nd St., New York City.
This meeting, which will mark the 15th birthday of the Jewish Welfare Board, will be attended by officials of the organization, as well as heads of Y.M.H.A.’s and Jewish community centers throughout the country, and also prominent men and women leaders of Jewish communal activity in different parts of the country.
The symposium, which will discuss the theme “What of Our Youth— A Challenge to the Jewish Community,” will be introduced by Felix M. Warburg, dean of American-Jewish philanthropists, and the speakers will include Ludwig Vogelstein, Chairman of the Executive Board of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations; Louis J. Borinstein, Chairman of the National Wider Scope Committee of the B’nai Brith; Louis J. Moss, President of the United Synagogue of America; Mrs. Arthur Brin, President of the National Council of Jewish Women; Benjamin Koenigsberg, Member of the Administrative Committee of the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America; Bernard Semel, Honorary Secretary of the Jewish Education Association. Judge Irving Lehman, President of the Jewish Welfare Board, will preside at the symposium.
The sessions of the meeting will begin today, and following an address of welcome by Frank L. Weil, President of the 92nd Street Y.M.H.A., there will be presented reports and addresses on the work of the Jewish Welfare Board. Among the speakers will be Judge Lehman, Benjamin J. Buttenwieser, treasurer of the organization; Harry L. Glucksman, executive director; and Dr. Cyrus Adler, Chairman of the American Jewish Committee, and Chairman of the Army and Navy Committee of the Jewish Welfare Board. Dr. Adler, in his address, will review the 15 years work of the organization.
The morning session will close with brief reports by presidents of regional Federations of Y.M.H.A.’s and Jewish Community Centers, who will tell of the work in their localities.
A uncheon will be tendered the delegates by the Reception Committee of the Y.M.H.A.
In connection with the celebration of the 15th birthday of the Young Judea of Canada, on December 25th, a uniform country-wide program will be enacted simultaneously in all Young Judea centers.
On Sunday afternoon, December 18th, at 3:45, Dr. Abraham Wolfson, author of “Spinoza, a Life of Reason,” will speak at the Central Jewish Institute, under the auspices of the Judean Club. Topic— Spinoza, Philosopher and Jew.
