Another big Jewish firm has crashed here, the century-old industrial and financial house of Kohner, of which the present head is Baron Adolf Kohner, the President of the Federation of Jewish Communities in Hungary.

The firm announced its liquidation to-day, explaining that the difficulties are due to the present economic crisis.

The Hungarian Government has granted the firm a moretorium for one year to enable it to call in its outstanding assets.

Of the numerous Jewish families in Hungary who were ennobled in the days of the monarchy only three have remained Jewish, the Barons Kohner, Wolfner and Birsztay, most of the others of these wealthy Jewish families being now pillars of the Catholic Church.

The Kohner firm, which was founded by Moritz Kohner, the grandfather of the present Baron, who came from Germany, where he was the first President of the Federation of Jewish Communities in Germany, was one of the pioneers of trade and industry in Hungary. His father, Siegmund Kohner, was a great financier, and was Controller of the Austro-Hungarian Bank. He was President of the Budapest Jewish Community, and founded many Jewish welfare institutions. The present Baron Kohner is in addition to being President of the Federation of Jewish Communities in Hungary, also President of the Jewish Fund in Hungary and a member of the Board of the Hungarian Rabbinical Seminary. He is a noted art connoisseur and collector.
