Israeli officials disclosed today that not one but two mines were planted by Arab saboteurs near the Syrian border in the past 48 hours, suggesting that the Syrians planned to renew sabotage activities after two weeks of relative border calm.
An Israel patrol reported yesterday that it had found and dismantled a mine of the type used by the Syrian army. The mine had been laid on the patrol’s route in the Dan area less than a mile from the Syrian border. The second mine was found last night after United Nations observers completed an investigation of the first one. Footprints of a single infiltrator were found at the scene of the second mine laying near the Syrian border on the banks of the Wadi Shayin.
