The anti-alien raids which affect a large number of Jews in Hungary continue, resulting mainly in deportations.
The situation called forth panic among considerable sections of the population. Interest in the matter is growing. Even members of the government party have stated they will intervene with the government.
The Minister of the Interior announced today that the present raids which are being carried on in the region of Szaboles will be extended to the entire country, but they will not have a discriminatory character against any group or religion.
On the other hand the newspapers report today that the local rabbis and superintendents of schools were asked by the authorities to submit lists of all pupils who have not birth certificates showing they are natives of Hungary.
In response to the query of the Jewish Daily Bulletin the Royal Hungarian Legation at Washington stated that it has entered into telegraphic communication with the Hungarian government concerning the en masse expulsions of Jews.
The Government advised the Legation, the Jewish Daily Bulletin is informed, that “in all 391 undesirable aliens who had not complied with the laws regulating the stay of aliens in Hungary have been made to leave the country. About fifty percent of these were Jews from Eastern Europe. It appears that persons trying to evade the regulations above referred to abound especially among these people.” the statement of the Hungarian Legation declared.
