As the West German national election campaign draws to a close, with voting scheduled for September 15, both of the parties in opposition to the Christian Democratic Union have charged that anti-Semitism has been injected in the Adenauer party’s campaigning.
The Social Democrats have charged that their election posters in a number of cities have been marred by yellow Stars of David pasted over them. Only a few weeks ago, the Christian Democratic Party manager apologized to the Socialists because a speaker for the majority party had falsely labelled Socialist candidate Erich Chenhauer a Jew. In addition the right-wing Free Democrats have also accused Christian Democrats of using the Jewish issue to draw votes.
