Breaking windows in Jewish-owned shops and battling reinforced police patrols, students of the Franz Joseph Royal Hungarian University of Science in Szoged, Hungary’s second largest city, today renewed their anti-Semitic demonstrations which started earlier in the week when Count Kuno Klebelsberg, minister of education, visited the University.
Ignoring the warning of the dean that the rioters would be severely punished, the students formed a street demonstration in the center of the city and fought police armed with swords and bayonets. A special bicycle police battalion was called out to prevent the students from invading the Jewish quarter.
Several students and a number of policemen were injured by flying missiles but the rioters were finally routed and order restored.
