A series of anti-Semitic incidents occurred in the Bavarian city of Regensburg during an election speech in that city by Erich Ollenhauer, national chairman of the Social Democratic Party of Germany.
Posters announcing that Herr Ollenhauer would address a regional conference of his party in Regensburg were defaced by the word “Jude” scrawled across them. When, in the course of his address Herr Ollenhauer condemned Jew-baiting and reminded his audience that millions of Jews had fallen victim to the Nazis, a heckler interjected: “Not enough of them have been killed.”
After the heckler was ejected from the meeting, the chairman of the conference declared that Herr Ollenhauer was not a Jew, but pointed out that the Social Democratic Party does not differentiate between Jews and non-Jews.
