Three policemen were injured here today in a renewal of anti-Semitic demonstrations which grew out of nationalist protests against the showing of German talking pictures. The total of those arrested as a result of the demonstrations is now sixty. The new incidents lasted several hours as the mob of several thousand slugged policemen and doorkeepers at moving picture houses showing German films. Patrons of the theatres were also attacked.
Shouting anti-German and anti-Jewish epithets, the mob went through the streets smashing windows of shops owned by Jews or Germans. The demonstration took on a serious character when the mob reached the German legation. On the way the rioters passed the theatre where Max Reinhardt’s company is playing. They raised such a rumpus there by smashing windows and doing other damage that the day’s performance was abandoned. Windows in the office of the Prager Presse, owned by Foreign Minister Benes, were also broken.
