The Jewish community of Costa Rica is concerned over a virulent anti-Jewish campaign carried on through advertisements in the press, by anti-Jewish slogans and by a few acts of violence, the New York Times reports today in a dispatch from San Jose, Costa Rica. The dispatch says that the campaign has developed since last Rosh Hashanah.

It reports that the President, who is all-powerful in the country, has refused to take a hand in squelching the Junta Patriotica which is officially behind the program. Those supporting the anti-Jewish campaign point out that earlier statements by President Otilio Ulate Blanco supported their propaganda against the Jews and, adds the Times, “nothing the President has said since has indicated any change in these views.” The Jews in Costa Rica number about 2,500, most of whom came from Poland.
