A leader of the ultra-nationalistic Tacuara movement, which was banned by the Government but continues to operate, told a press conference here today that the movement was “mortally anti-Zionist” and would fight Zionism with guns if necessary.
The statement was made by Patricio Erreculdte Pueyrredon, national secretary, in the absence of Jose Bazter, its leader, who is now visiting Communist China. The secretary said that the movement has some 200 followers in and around Buenos Aires and that it was training youths in paramilitary tactics in Santa Fe, Entre Rios, Tucuman and Salta.
He said the movement was strongly “anti-Yankee” but that “we are not Jew-hunters, nor are we yearning for the Third Reich” of Germany. He said the movement was not concerned with Jews, “except when they are Zionists.” He emphasized the movement’s “solidarity” with the Arab world and said it favored the return to power in Argentina of deposed dictator Juan Peron.
