Notwithstanding government assurances that those guilty of anti-Semitic acts would be punished, the state attorney of Beltz, M. Pakuraru, whom the investigating authorities had branded as being guilty of encouraging the disturbances in Beltz, was today transferred from his position at Beltz to a similar one at Deva where there is also a large Jewish population.
The investigating officials had established that Pakuraru had openly protected the leaders of the anti-Semitic outbreaks at Beltz and had even inspired their activities against the Jews. Simultaneously, the investigation showed, he oppressed innocent Jewish sufferers following the disturbances and tortured them.
The Bucharest press is asking why he was allowed to go unpunished and why he was transferred to Deva, since there are also large numbers of Jews in that community.
