Although U.S. Consular authorities here refuse to disclose the reason for the refusal of a visitor’s visa to Dr. Ernst Achenbach, chairman of the Free Democratic Party in the Ruhr, it is understood that the rejection was based on the fact that Dr. Achenbach has a Nazi and anti-Semitic record.
During the Nazi regime, Dr. Achenbach was in charge of the political department of the Nazi Foreign Office in German-occupied France. When two German officers were attacked in Paris, he recommended that, as a retaliatory gesture, several hundred Jews be deported to the death camps of Eastern Europe. In his law office, Dr. Achenbach employs Dr. Werner Best, at one time third man in the Gestapo.
