An anti-Semitic riot was narrowly averted in a small Danubian village near here when a black marketer spread the story that the flesh of children was being sold on the open market in Budapest.
Although all the children in the village were safely accounted for, some of the mothers became hysterical when they saw two black automobiles which they believed contained kidnappers, parked near the village limits. A mob gathered and started to attack the local rabbi’s house, but were halted by the police. Two women and a man were arrested and will be tried by a People’s Court on charges of inciting anti-democratic acts.
Fifty-nine persons charged with complicity in an anti-Jewish outbreak at the town of Kunmadaras last month, in which several Jews were killed, finally have gone on trial here, after many delays. The prosecutor asked the death penalty for the four instigators of the riot and stiff prison terms for the others. The trial will continue this week.
