Fifteen Jewish students were injured, seven of whom are in a serious condition, in an attack perpetrated on Jewish students on the University campus on Saturday.
The attack occurred in the traditional “students’ bummel.” Members of the student Hakenkreuzler organization attacked the Jewish students with sticks and whips. The group was 500 strong and included, it was said, members of the Heimwehr. The police intervened too late to be of any help, arresting many on both sides.
Among the Jewish students injured are Dr. Tislowitz, Georg Klaus, Theodore Mark, Simche Gebel, Marco Kappeller.
Tourists who happened to be on the scene of the attacks expressed their disgust with the unseemly sight at the University, declaring they were ashamed of the “Aryans” perpetrating such attacks.
An announcement on the University gate placed by the authorities declared that the students guilty will be severely punished and that beginning next week measures of precaution will be taken against the admittance of unidentified persons to the University campus.
The police headquarters issued a statement denying the report that the police remained passive during the attack.
