Hitler, fascism and anti-Semitism were strongly assailed by Ab. Cahan, editor of the “Jewish Daily Forward” in an address delivered on Sunday at Town Hall, at an anti-Hitler rally arranged by the Socialist party. Mr. Cahan was one of the principal speakers at the meeting which was attended by a large throng.
“Hitler’s anti-Semitism,” he said, “is the cheapest and rottenest sort of demagoguery. I know Germany and I do not believe that the Germans will permit their culture to be advertised through the medium of pogroms upon the Jews.” This statement was warmly applauded by the audience.
Former Judge Jacob Panken demanded that the League of Nations and the United States government formally protest against the anti-Semitism of the Nazis.
American Hitlerites present at the meeting, sought to interrupt the speaker, and when they began to heckle Vincenzo Vacirca, former member of the Italian Parliament and Bruno Wagner, president of the Friends of the German Republic, they were thrown out of the hall by the audience.
