A coalition of trade unionists, political figures, Palestinians and Socialists has been formed to protest a scheduled visit here by former Israeli Defense Minister Ariel Sharon. The coalition sent a telegram to Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau asking him to forbid “the war criminal Sharon “from entering Canada.
If, however, Sharon does come to Montreal, the coalition warned that it would organize a massive protest rally. Sharon is expected here June 1 to help in a fund-raising campaign for the Shaare Zedek Hospital in Jerusalem.
The coalition comprises members of the National Assembly of Parti Quebecois; the Quebec Workers Trade Union; the St. Jean Baptiste Society; the Palestinians North American Congress; the Greek Socialist Party, and Yvon Charbonneau, the president of the 65,000-member teachers trade union.
