Large anti-Zionist demonstrations were held throughout Lebanon today, and a general strike at Beirut closed shops and restaurants and stopped all transport services. Demonstrators marched through the streets, carrying placards with slogans such as “We Want the Mufti of Jerusalem Back.”
The union of Lebanese parties today formulated seven demands for communication to the Allied powers:
1. Prohibition of further Jewish immigration into Palestine. 2. Prohibition of land sales to Jews. 3. Prohibition of Zionist infiltration among Jews in other Arab countries. 4. Boycotting of Zionist trade. 5. Disarmament of Jewish colonies in Palestine. 6. Return of Arab deportees, and the Mufti. 7. Prevention of the interference of the Jewish Agency in the affairs of the Palestine Government.
