State Senator Benjamin Antin, who has represented the 22nd District of the Bronx in the New York State Legislature for the past nine years, will not be a candidate for re-election this Fall. He has announced that he desires to devote his time in the future to the practice of law.
Senator Antin was born in 1884 in Kamenetz-Podolsk, Ukraine, and came to this country at the age of sixteen. He was graduated from the New York City College in 1910 and from the New York Law School in 1913. In 1920 he was elected to the Assembly and in 1922 to the State Senate on the Democratic ticket. He was chairman of the New York State Child Welfare Commission from 1924 to 1926. He is a member of the Administrative Committee of the American Jewish Congress and of Montefiore Congregation in the Bronx.
Senator Antin distinguished himself particularly in the Albany Legislature as the author of important legislation providing for the education, care, protection and welfare of children. He has written many articles on legislation dealing with child welfare and public education.
