Premier Antonius has sent a letter to Dr. William Fisherman, president of the Union of Rumanian Jews, assuring him that if the Jewish population does not “sabotage” the regime either politically or economically it will be protected against all attacks, it was disclosed today. The premier called for patience in order to permit the solving of all problems and promised he would respect his given word.

Meanwhile, the Jewish community welcomed Antonescu’s earlier declaration that every man would be treated as an individual, regardless of the language he speaks.

The recent measure limiting the number of synagogues and restricting observance of the Jewish religion has been suspended pending issuance of definite regulations.

The press demands nationalization of Rumanian economic life, without disturbance and sabotage by the Jews. The first step to realize this will be the establishment of a proportion of ten Rumanian enterprises to every Jewish one. The second stage, to be achieved after a period of two years, will be complete elimination of Jews from economic and industrial life.
