Anti-Semitic incidents in West Germany, directed particularly against Jews returning here from oversess to reclaim their property under restitution legislation, are increasing, it was reported today, A number of incidents in which crowds openly shouted enti-Semitic epithets at individual Jews in the towns of Kassal and Fuerth were reported.
In a special resolution, the Fureth City Council asked both the Bavarian provincial and the Federal governments to institute “immediate and sharp measures against the revival of anti-Semitism in Bavaria.” Legislation to provide punishment for every attempeed act of anti-Semitism was also demanded in the City Council’s request.
Meanwhile, desecrations of two more Jewish cemehenies in West Germany were reported here. Vendals knocked over four tomabstonss in the Rauschenburg cemetery, located near Kassel, and two in the old Jewish cemetery at Shermannsburg. Two men were arrested and are expected to stand trial shortly.
George Arachler, a former Gestapo offioer, was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment by a court in Bayreuth for participating in the notorieus program of the night of Nov 9, 1938, Nine other defendants received jail terms ##nging from two to 15 months, while six were acquitted.
