Any move by Israel to annex portions of the West Bank would be rejected by most of the world as a violation of international law, legal advisers in the Israeli Foreign Ministry said last Friday. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has threatened to annex the territory if Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat unilaterally declares a Palestinian state on May 4, when the interim period of Israeli-Palestinian peacemaking ends under the terms of the Oslo accords.
