Any unilateral withdrawal from the Gaza Strip would only take place in the context of the U.S. led “road map” peace initiative, Israel’s deputy prime minister told Colin Powell. Ehud Olmert met with the U.S. secretary of state in Washington on Thursday and elaborated on Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s proposal to pull settlements out of the Gaza Strip. Sharon’s announcement reflected frustration with the current Palestinian leadership, Olmert said.
