Due to the amazing success of the motion picture division of the local United Jewish Appeal, the campaign which was to begin here on July 9 the “opening” function scheduled for that date is now officially designated as “the victory dinner.” Rabbi Johan B. Wise, one of the national co-chairman of the United Jewish Appeal, will be the guest speaker.
Headed by Irving Thalberg, of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, the motion picture division, at its initial luncheon last week, secured subscriptions of $40,000 from members of the film industry toward a total quota for the community of $75,000.
Taking advantage of the enthusiasm created by Thalberg’s announcement, campaign chairman Judge Isaac Pacht, of the Los Angeles Superior Court, drastically revised the campaign’s entire schedule. He called a luncheon meeting of seventy-five outstanding men and women of the community on Monday. Those who attended the luncheon included Meyer Elsasser, Mr. Thalberg, Ben R. Meyer, Judge Harry A. Hollzer, Jack L. Warner George Mosbacher, Mrs. S. H. Berch, honorary chairman; Mendel B. Silberberg, Charles Brown, Marco Kahn, Judge Benjamin J. Scheinman, Mrs. Henry Lissner, Herman F. Hahn, I. Irving Lipsitch and J. Peckell Nathan.
