Appeal for Opening of Palestine

Twenty-four of Palestine’s most prominent Jewish leaders, including chief Rabbis Isaac Herzog and Jacob Meir, published an appeal to the British people today to open the gates of the holy land to Jewish immigration. it was understood the the Jewish National Council, at an executive session tomorrow, would recommend that the Jewish Agency boycott the Palestine conferences in London unless the British Government agreed that Palestine must assist in solving the tragedy of German Jewry at least in the same degree as other countries. Hebrew newspapers assailed the address by lord Dufferin and Ava in the house of Lords last week in which he announced that there would be no change in the Government’s immigration policy until March, when the current schedule expires. They urged that the Jewish Agency reconsider its decision to participate in the London conferences.

Sporadic disorders continued, meanwhile, with two persons killed over the week-end. Erwin Brasch, 47, a converted German-Jewish official of Barclays’ Bank here for the past 20 years, was found shot to death yesterday near his home on the Mt. of Olives. At Haifa, a Jewish cartdriver named Jona Shtoul, 40, of Poland, was shot dead by snipers near the center of the city. A British magistrate in Jaffa adjourned until Monday the case of four British policemen charged with the unjustifiable killing of an Arab.
