An appeal has been issued here by Chief Rabbi Kook and M. Ussischkin, head of the Jewish National Fund, calling upon all Jewry to start a relief campaign for the provision of food to Jews in Soviet Russia.
Large numbers of Palestinian Jews who have friends and relatives in Russia have recently received news pointing to a state of semi-starvation.
At the end of last month, relief work for Russia was initiated in Tel Aviv by the proclamation of a “Week for Helping Soviet Jewry.” Addresses have been delivered in all the synagogues and offerings were accepted for transmission to Soviet Russia through “Torgsin.” In Tel Aviv alone, over $1,000 was collected by the local relief committee.
It is now planned to set up a permanent organization for relief in Russia, as well as the issue of a special appeal for the provision of Matzoths for Jews in Russia.
