The approach of Passover has already brought a blood-libel scare to Lithuania, where a Jewess and her child were detained by the police at Popelian on account of being without the necessary documents. The tale was at once spread that the child had been stolen from Christians for alleged Passover ritual purposes. A large crowd surrounded the police station, demanding that the child should be handed over, and only dispersed after the police assured them that they had established the identity of the woman and child and that the Jewess was the child’s mother.
