The cost of living index rose by 10.7 percent in April, the highest Increase for this month in 29 years, according to the Central Bureau of Statistics.

Since the beginning of the year the index has risen by 33 percent. If the rote continues at its present figure, inflation this year will reach 136 percent, the highest ever and far higher than the two figure inflation forecast by Finance Minister Yoram Aridor. The Central Bureau of Statistics, said the sharp April rise was due to a 100 percent increase in municipal taxes and steep hikes in prices of fruit and vegetables and clothing and footwear.
